Special studies students must draw on existing courses to craft their program and meet all academic requirements of the University. Coursework in this specialization focuses on stagecraft, costuming, lighting, sound, script analysis, and other important technical aspects of theatrical production. Students will show evidence of possessing a strong, well-rounded background in dance pedagogy, history, research, learning theory and practicum to become “highly qualified” as a Teaching Artist. Graduates will be prepared to teach dance at the highest level and have the knowledge and skills to handle the marketing and managerial side of running a successful business. The sports teams are supported by a spirit squad, which includes a cheerleading team that competes in various competitions and performs at all home football and basketball games. Athletes also participate in community service projects and take part in other events as part of the NCAA Life Skills program.
